What can you expect at the Playground Jazz Camp?

Combo Rehearsals:

The combos are one of the most important and enjoyable aspects of the Jazz Camp. Every day, the same band lineup rehearses and refines various pieces. All vocalists and instrumentalists are pre-assigned to ensembles based on their skill level to ensure that no one feels overwhelmed or underchallenged. This allows everyone to rehearse and make music in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Together with the instructors, you will learn how to rehearse effectively with a band and improve your individual ensemble playing. Topics include how to accompany soloists, read lead sheets, and arrange pieces for a band.

Instrumental Lessons:

During instrumental lessons, you will have the opportunity each day to discuss specific aspects of your instrument or instrument group with the instructors and other participants. The instructors create a space for your questions and input while also providing guidance on relevant topics and practicing together with you.

Theory Sessions:

Additionally, there will be a short daily theory session where the instructors provide insights into topics such as chord and scale theory, rhythm, jazz history, and ear training. Since these subjects are relevant for all participants, these sessions will take place as a group.

Jam Sessions:

The highlight of every jazz workshop! The evening jam sessions are an essential part of the Playground Jazz Camp. It’s time to play, experiment, and share the joy of making music together!
